Ryan Boserio likes planes

Ryan Boserio is an emerging Perth artist, and he likes planes.

“I like the idea that a model plane can be used to fool people when
taking a picture of the finished product. There have been documented
cases where individuals who build models of planes have had the
authorities attention brought about, due to the fact that a photo of a
particular plane may be a security risk. This phenomenon has also been
prevalent with those that are affectionately known as “plane
spotters”, people who are at airports documenting planes and flight
paths, perhaps not because a photo of a plane is a security risk but
for another analogous security reason.

In both cases utilitarian design has been adopted for a purpose other
than the one for which it was intended, which we, as a society are
uncomfortable with.

For me, this presents an interesting blur between art and design as
well. For instance; is the creative act a documentation of plane paths
and numbers or is the creative act the flying of those planes that
are being documented? Is art the of building model planes or is it the
photographing those model planes in order for them to be appreciated
by other model plane builders? The answer is most likely both.”

Deejo

Posted by admin On September - 20 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Deejo is an Illustrator and graphic Designer based in Perth.

I have been drawing since I was 5. My first love was dinosaurs, and I used to draw them everyday until I found comic books. 2000AD was a massive influence on me when I was a kid, me and a friend of mine used to copy all the frames and try and draw in the different styles. When I found out some of my favourite comic book artists had a Graphic Design background I went and did a TAFE course.

So since then I have been thrust into the world of Graphic Design. An Illustrator at heart, I have always looked for a way to use that in my designs. I have been lucky enough to be involved in the local hip-hop scene through my long association with the mighty Syllabolix crew of musicians, and have done over a hundred different gig posters for various hip hop acts and clubs over the last 5 years.

While my history lies in digital illustration, recently I have branched out and gotten back to my roots and started painting canvas again. This has really ignited my craving for producing art, and I hope to have my first exhibition sometime soon in the future.

Renae Geddes

Renae is at her happiest with a paintbrush in hand. She originally studied Graphic Design and is currently working in the media. Her love for art has been overwhelming! Recently she has been focusing on painting and set up a studio so she can spend more time devoted to her passion. Renae’s works have been shown at a number of galleries throughout Perth and notably at the 2006 Art for Arttitude Exhibition at the Perth Convention Centre.

Although painting primarily in oils for the time being, she says she will return to her roots of graphics and mixed media soon. “This is just the beginning and I am enjoying everyday.”
