One of Fremantle’s most iconic buildings, the Woolstores, has recently undergone an artistic transformation in time for the ISAF 2011 sailing festival in Freo. The project was a joint initiative between the Fremantle Council and ISAF, and was lead by George Haynes and Darren Hutchens.

Internationally acclaimed WA artist George Haynes designed a series of colorbond panels which have been installed around the building, covering the many broken windows that the building has been known for. A team of local Perth street artists took part in painting murals along the doorways and over the boarded window areas along the ground level of the building. Amongst those involved with the painting were Darren Hutchens, Ilsa Bennion, Dan Duggans, Laurie Haulden, Toni Williams, Dibs, Rubik, Suloh, Deejo, Dave Spencer, Drew Turner, Drew Straker, Poise, Pore, Lady Bnanas, Dave Shawbo, Nerida Groom, Nathan & Dave, Keos, Yoh-yo, Dmerc, Tim Meager, the Clancy’s crew, Ben Crappsley, Kus Rolph, Maxxi May, and more.

The works can be seen anytime on the outside of the Woolstores building, which is on Cantonment St in Fremantle.. which happens to be opposite Clancy’s, so why not head down for some tasty calamari and check out the new artworks :)
